From Oscar nominee Kaouther Ben Hania and winner of the Best Documentary prize at Cannes, “Four Daughters” is a riveting exploration of rebellion, memory, and sisterhood. The life of Olfa, a Tunisian woman and mother of foru daughters, oscillates between light and shadow. One day, her two eldest daughters disappear. To fill their absence, director Kaouther Ben Hania calls upon professional actors and sets up an extraordinary film mechanism to unveil the story of Olfa and her daughters.

 

Kaouther Ben Hania studied cinema in Tunisia (EDAC) then in Paris (Fémis and the Sorbonne). Her documentary film Imams Go to School premiered at IDFA 2010 and was selected for many prestigious festivals. Challat of Tunis (2013) was her first feature film. Her second feature film, Beauty and The Dogs was selected into Cannes 2017. In 2021, her feature film, The Man Who Sold His Skin was the first-ever Tunisian film to be nominated for an Oscar.
